about

More than half a million people are homeless in America right now, but that figure is increasing by the day.

lyrics

Tent city has become the new suburbia
I'm not talking about that Burning Man in the sand tripping off of acid and mild sedative's
i'm talking about the newfound community that lives right next-door to you

The place with the housing Association makes you pay the dues of just trying to survive
Where water runs freely through the sewers to which you fill your cup and hope it is enough

The place where honor is a real thing
Where food is short but hearts sing just grateful to have covering from the rain
The place you drive-by and complain about the shopping carts filled with what you believe to be nothings

The place where the cops come through and rampage as if they are pirates searching for gold in a dead man's chest
The place where you complain about your tax dollars being put to use for low lives, is what you call them

The place where you throw your cup out of the window drop your candy wrapper on the ground because you believe it is all trash anyway

The place where bottles and cans are collected in order to buy meals or a pack of smokes
The place where needles and sex exist and persist

The place where bodies are sold just to grab hold of something more
The place were veterans lay their head because I believe they are still in war
The place where the famous guitar player now has to live
The place where you close your eyes really tightly and hope that it all goes away
the place where you call the cops and have them cleared out by the end of the day
dreams really do come true

The place you decided to move to because your car became too tight
The place you pray you'll not freeze through the night

Tent city has become the new suburbia

Where refugees can now call home
The place where children live and play
The place that you hate because really the way things are going you might have to live there one day

The place where disability and social security really live
The place where you point and warn your kids
The place where your to good to go even on Christmas to serve a warm meal

The place where the labels on the clothes don't make a difference
The place where the smell of urine and feces runs fresh everyday
The place where they have cell phones and still take selfies to post on social media to pretend it's all still OK

The place where the sounds of the overpass drowned out your rambling neighbor

Tent city has become the new suburbia

It's the place where you feel like you still have something
The place where community really is
The place where hope and despair are fresh in the air
The place you still have promise and care

Tent city has become the new suburbia
